Blake had a little break from school in January.
So, we ran away to San Francisco last minute.
We got a sitter for London & Penny tagged along with us.
It was SO much fun to have alone time with Penny as a couple.
We got to know little Penny a little better, & she LOVED all of our attention.
It was just what we needed
& it ended up being one of the most fun weekends I have had in a LONG time.
DAY ONE:
We took off from the Provo airport. Has anyone else flown out of that airport? So so tiny--but, so fun. We arrived in San Fran happy as could be, jumped off the airplane, took the shuttle to our car rental place, & realized we FORGOT all of our baggage & car seat at the airport. Palm to face!! We laughed so bloody hard about it. Woof! Needless to say, we jumped back on the shuttle, went back to the airport, & got everything.
We spent most of our first day at the Fishermans Warf right in San Francisco. Such a fun & fishy atmosphere. We ate the VERY BEST fish taco's in the entire world, tired deep fried oreos, ate terrible crab cakes, watched the street entertainment, bought sea shells for London, watched the boats at the harbor, & attemped to do Alcatraz--who knew you had to book your tour days in advance--not us. So, that was a HUGE bummer not being able to do that. We drove over the Golden Gate bridge & realized that there was this really cool mountain pull off that we could get out & get an amazing view of the bridge. That was our favorite part of the whole day. The view was breathtaking + they had tons of little tunnels in the mountain that you could walk through & each outlet had a different view of the bridge & ocean. BEAUTIFUL. We watched the sunset with the bridge & ocean in view.
DAY TWO:
We woke up at 10--much needed.
We jumped in our car & headed up the coast.
Holy cow, can I just live right on the West Coast? Boy, we saw some amazing views.
We stopped at a Lighthouse & walked around. I have ALWAYS loved lighthouses. There is just something about them. The history, the beauty, & the mystery. Whatever it is, I love them.
Blake was determined to go to the Pebble Beach Golf course & so we drove on the famous 17 mile loop drive. We stopped at a beach as the sun was setting to get some pictures, walk bare foot through the sand, find seashells for London, & watch the sunset over the beach. It was SO refreshing & I could just feel my soul & mind getting cleansed. After a quick pee in the parking lot--I will go all natural before I go in a nasty porta potty--we drove to the golf course. Blake snuck onto the green, ran around, & took a picture. He was all sorts of proud to walk where the major golf players have walked. Ha! We stopped at a delicious Fish Market restaurant on the way home & consumed our weight in seafood.
As Blake & I were trying to figure out where we were going in the car, Blake gets pulled over. Apparently, the cop totally thought Blake was drunk & had him get out to walk the line. I was seriously rolling over in my seat just dying laughing. Finally, the cop decided he wasn't drunk & told us to drive safe & be on our way. One of my very favorite memories from the trip.
DAY THREE:
We were dying to have those amazing fish taco's again & so we headed back to the Fishermans Warf & ate fish taco's & then walked over & got a fresh crab cooked. Delicious. We drove & walked on Lumbar street & then headed to the Sutro Baths. Really cool ruins of a massive public swimming pool by the ocean that was abandoned in 1896. You would never guess that the ruins were once a public swimming pool. The place was breathtaking. Waves crashing in, cool caves to walk through, fields of flowers, & lots of pretty trails. Since this was our last night, we wanted to end the night on a beach again. The paticular beach we went to was really cool because we pretty much hiked down a cliff to get to it. We found lots of crabs, collected more seashells for London, & ate chips & salsa while we watched the sunset. It was the perfect way to end our vacation.
Penny was such a little doll the entire trip. She stole the show wherever we went & just smiled the entire trip. She is such a sweetheart & was so easy to take.
Next time I go on vacation I am going to hire you to come with us and just snap pictures the whole time. This is a talent I really wish I had!! You are amazing and I love that I have such a talented and beautiful friend!
