Day two was spent in Washington D.C.
What a delight! Seriously, so surreal. A day I will never ever forget. D.C was so different than I had imagined. It was such a cool thing to be there. We walked probably 7 miles. Demi's brother in law works at the Smithsonian at the natural history one & so he was able to give us a back stage tour. So awesome! We spent a good portion of our day at the Smithsonian. My favorite part of the day was going into the Art museum with Demi. Demi & I both have an intense love for art & so it was so refreshing to discuss the paintings with one another. We gave each other insight about each painting & we even discovered a cool new thing about Monet's painting! We discovered that when you are close up to his paintings, they are very muddy and the colors are so dull-BUT, when you step back, the colors are VIVID and there is so much depth. We relaxed on the beautiful couches and basically pretended to be art scholars. It was so much fun. We walked by the capital and they were already roping areas off for the inauguration in January. We walked to the Washington Monument & then walked to the Lincoln memorial. The Lincoln memorial was also one of my favorite things about that day. It was so spiritual. It was so humbling. To stand where Martin Luther King Jr. stood to give his speech. To see the giant statue of Lincoln & to read the beautiful words on the walls. So so awesome. It was one of those peaceful beautiful feelings. Standing there with one of my very best friends was such a blessing. To experience that with her. We then walked to the White House & it was interesting to me how far away you are. It's guarded so heavily & it was pretty dang cool to see. Oh, and did I mention the Indian food & taco's we had? Because YUM!
