Alyeska resort is absolutely beautiful + I knew my parents would love it (I went with Heidi while she was here). They've got this glass tram that takes you right up the mountain. It's really fun + awesome because you can see the whole beautiful mountain. Once at the top, we walked + looked around. It's so so beautiful from the top & they have this quaint little restaurant up there that we ate at. The view was perfect while we sipped on our hot chocolate & ate our seafood chowder. After we got done eating, my dad said, "Well, should we hike down the mountain?" Patty quickly agreed. Now, this is a BIG mountain & so I kept asking if they were sure & they kept saying yes. Before we started, I told them that they couldn't blame this on me...this was all their own doing. haha.
At first the trail was really gentle because it had a ton of switchbacks. London was enjoying eating the salmon + blueberries & we all enjoyed the company + conversation. It was raining & so the trail quickly got much harder + really slippery. About a mile into the hike, patty fell. Since she suffers really bad from vertigo, she then started throwing up. I just kept thinking what in the heck are we gonna do. She was so dang nauseous that she couldn't even stand up. So, after a while of resting, we were able to get her up. She held onto my dads shoulders the rest of the way down. We stopped a few times to ease her vertigo & at one point, we had her laying up against the mountain. It was raining pretty hard at that point & so she said the rain felt good on her face as she was resting. She was such a champ though. Seriously. Nauseous and all, she made it down the mountain & Ayeska Mountain is BIG. My favorite part of the entire day was watching London & how concerned she was for her grandma. She was seriously so sweet that as I'm writing this now, I am tearing up. She made sure her grandma was stepping in all the right spots & was constantly asking her grandma how she was feeling. It was so so sweet to witness.
After we got down the mountain, we all started laughing so hard because of everything. I love my parents & their good sense of humor....even after such an event happened, we could still laugh really hard about it.
As we were going down the mountain, something bit me all around my ankles. At first I thought it was mosquito bites & then we thought horse flies...but seriously, it's been 2.5 weeks & my bites are still itching like crazy & are still inflamed. So, hopefully something poisonous didn't bite me. Yikes!
