My mama was kind enough to watch the girls in the cabin the entire day so that I could fish with my dad + blake. And boy did we ever fish!
My parents friends (the eggberts) have a cabin in Sterling right on the Kenai River & so we were able to spend time there fishing. Salmon fishing on the Kenai is unlike anything I've ever done before. About every 8 seconds we were casting. It was always such a fun surprise when you pulled back & had a fish on your hook. My first big fish that I actually was able to reel in (they are hard to get in. Little buggers) was a big trout & we had to put it back since fishing for trout is illegal on the kenai. Buuuuuuuuut, I was so dang excited when I got in on my hook that I started reeling the reel backwards & reeled the entire reel right off the fishing pole. I had the eggberts neighbors, my dad, and Blake rolling around with laughter..but hey, I still landed it! We got a ton of hooks, but we were able to only catch 5 of them. We all wanted to get in the river to fish, but the river was really high & had a really strong current....So, Blake was the only one that was able to get in because the water would have filled my waiters up. I was bummed but I loved watching Blake in the river. We fished for about 8 hours & the eggberts made us some yummy fried fish for dinner!
Catching Salmon was one of the funnest things I have ever done..BUT, my favorite part about that whole experience was hanging out with the two men I love the very most all day. We laughed, talked, + enjoyed the scenery & company. To witness how much fun my dad + Blake was having was the best part for me. It was a day I will never forget! Alaska fishing has my whole heart.
Oh and P.S, my girls were utterly spoiled in the cabin. Janice eggbert made them each a skirt + the Eggberts granddaughters just entertained them all day long. They were in heaven!
