One of the coolest things I will ever witness in my entire life. A whale (dead) got beached in Anchorage + we took the opportunity of a lifetime to go see it. After we skidded down a sandy mountain, we had to take off our shoes + walk in mud up to our ankles for about 1/2 mile to the whale. It was even bigger than I had imagined + it def put into perspective how big the ocean is to be housing this sea creature + a million other huge sea creatures. We tried to steer clear of the whale blood...but, it was mixed all
around the mud & I wanted to see the entire whale & so my feet
got a bit bloody. Thankfully though, it was extremely windy that day & so the stink of
the whale was downwind & it actually only stunk when we went down
around it. Who in the world gets to see an entire beached whale? It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for sure. I am discovering that I've been able to experience a lot of once in a lifetime opportunities this summer. It's been absolutely surreal. I'm still amazed that I was able to see this in real life. Kinda seems like a dream. My girls have no idea how lucky they are. Good thing I take pictures so that I can show them when they are older how unreal their summer in Alaska was.
