Thunderbird Falls

Because this hike was one of my least favorite hikes (mostly due to the mosquitoes + whiny children), I'm gonna write about something entirely different.

Amy has had Dot all summer & the other night while she was walking her, two big dogs ran out to the road & attacked Dot.  Dot was on her leash & so Amy was trying to pull Dot away but her collar slipped off from around her head.  Amy then started screaming + whipping the big dogs with the leash in order to get them off of Dot.  Dot was crying/whining the whole time.  Eventually, the owner came out & called the Dogs off of Dot & then he just went back in his house.  Didn't say a word to Amy.  He didn't ask if she was ok or if our dog was ok...nope, just walked right back in his house.  Meanwhile, Amy + dot are sitting in front of his house for a good 5 minutes while Amy is trying to get Dot up (Dot wouldn't let Amy touch her because she was in so much pain + was hurt badly)....and still that guy is just back in his house.  Amy was so upset/traumatized by the whole thing that she didn't end up telling me until the next morning.  She had been crying all night & was really upset.  So, the next morning, we were on the phone all morning trying to decide if we needed to take her to the vet.  Her + I are both crying. Dot wouldn't let Amy near her wounds to get a better look.  Dave finally got home and was able to help Amy hold Dot down so that they could get a better look at it & it was way worse than we had imagined.  So, Amy took Dot to the vet & they ended up having to clean the wound, drain the wound, & stitch it up.  Poor Dot, poor Amy, and poor us for not being able to be with her while she's hurt.  Amy is doing a great job at looking after her & Dot couldn't have been in better hands for something like that to happen.

Anyway, I am so so so so frustrated about the whole situation though.  I am so bothered that the guy didn't come out to see if everything was ok.  Like clearly, Dot is seriously injured.  She can't get up.  Amy didn't know who lived in the house, but, she told us what house it was & it ended up being in Blake's parents ward..So, we were able to get his name + contact info.  Blake is gonna contact him because we are so confused + frustrated with the whole situation + how he handled it.  The vet bill was $400 & we actually wouldn't have even cared to pay the $400 if he actually showed compassion toward the situation or even just simply apologized.  Anyway, hopefully, I'll have an update with how things went with the guy...but for now, I am just so frustrated.

UPDATE:  Blake called the guy + explained the situation.  They guy said he had no idea that his dogs were attacking Dot.  He just said he thought they were out there barking at her.  He apologized profusely + offered to pay the vet bill.  Blake said he felt terrible + was genuine.

LESSON LEARNED for me.  Never just assume the worst in someone.  I felt horrible after Blake called the guy because I had been SO very frustrated with him without even hearing his side of the story.  I almost deleted this post after the phone call...but, I thought I'll leave it up because it might be something to remember when I'm old + wrinkly & reading my blog books.

UPDATE ON THE UPDATE:  The guy ended up sending a check to us + a really heartfelt note about how sorry he was.  Seriously, I feel so bad about how mad I was at him for everything without hearing his side.  Anyway, really though, lesson learned.
