Musk Ox, Reindeer, Dogs + Hatcher Pass

Before living in Alaska, I hadn't honestly thought much about the iditarod!  Now, I have such a deep respect for the dogs, the mushers, the sport, + the reason why dog racing was put into place in the first place.  If you are not familiar with Balto + the 'first' race, you should look it up to get the full story.  But, I'll give you a condensed version.  Diphtheria was taking over a town in Alaska (Nome) & the only way to get medicine over was a team of dogs + a musher....  Sled dogs used to be an extremely common way to get around Alaska, not so common anymore.  So, a guy named Joe Redington started the iditarod dog sled races so that the rich history of this type of transportation would never be forgotten.  Anyway, Raymie Redington (Joe's son) was the musher behind us.  We were able to ride a sled with wheels behind the dogs + it was absolutely amazing.

While we were down in the area of Wasilla/Palmer, we hit up the musk ox farm + the reindeer farm.  The Musk Ox farm was so so...the reindeer farm was so dang much fun.  London was reserved at first but quickly loved running around with all the reindeer + feeding them.  One of the reindeer even tried to eat Penny's shoe lace + my shirt haha!  I also got to feed an elk from my mouth!

We ended the day with a drive up Hatcher Pass.  It was one of the prettiest drives + it ended at an old abandoned ghost time mine.  So awesome.
