Portage Glacier + Whittier

I leave Alaska tomorrow & it's just utter craziness.
I c a n n o t believe that FOUR months has already come + gone.
A huge chunk of my heart will be left here in Alaska & it's always gonna be one of the biggest highlights of my entire life.  It's been the best 4 months of my life so far.
I am, however, REALLY excited to snuggle my pooch, sleep in my own bed, and eat grandma sycamore bread.  It's the little things that make home, home.

Sage & I went on a hike yesterday with our girls to Campbell Lake.  We started the summer with our very first hike around that lake & so we wanted to end the summer the same way.  I love that place so much.  I didn't bring my camera because I wanted to just focus on taking mental pictures.  The fall leaves were completely covering the trail & it was that crisp autumn air that I love so much.  It's crazy to think that the first time we hiked that trail, there was still snow on the ground.  It was the perfect last hurrah for Alaska.

Our last BIG Sunday adventure in Alaska was one of my very favorite days ever!  We drove down south to portage to catch the portage glacier cruise..only to miss it by ONE minute.  Thankfully, they had another one going 1.5 hours later.  We ended up driving into a campground & letting the girls get out to explore.  Gosh, I love fall in Alaska.  It is something out of a fairy tale.  We boarded the Ptmarigan cruise ship & I fell in love with how blue glaciers are all over again.  The massiveness!! It was really fun because Blake got to join this time around for a glacier cruise & I loved seeing his face as he took in the beautiful glacier.  London was stoked that the boat had a coloring table (her latest obsession) & Penny couldn't get enough of eating the glacier ice & holding a yellow rubber ducky.  It was another once in a lifetime adventure.
After the glacier cruise, we decided to go into Whittier & go through the Whittier tunnel.  Driving through the tunnel was so much fun.  It's a 2.5 mile tunnel through this massive mountain AND you have to pay to go through it.  Well worth it tho.  London thought we were in the cave of wonders!  We rolled down all the windows and that fresh dirt smell will be forever in my senses. What a delightful smell!  Whittier was just as quaint + perfect as I had imagined it.  We ended up eating at this AWESOME restaurant right on the water.  I have never had better clam chowder or halibut in my entire life.  We hit the jack pot with that place.  My mouth is still watering for it.  Yum!  Such a fun day!  I want to relive that day all over again.  It was just one of those days, ya know?
